Muaythai Premier League, Padova - Results
Pictures and fighters' reactions
The second round of the Muaythai Premier League was held successfully in Padova, Italy. Some great fights but with a few litigious decisions (Liam HARISON, Roberto COCCO, Jordan WATSON).
140lb (63.5kg) - Super Lightweight
Ilona Wijmans (NED) def. Chantal Ughi (ITA) via Unanimous Decision
Chantal UGHI: "I believe I won the first round and I score points with teeps and knees in the clinch. I was given an 8 count for nothing at the beginning of round 2 for a leg throw which is unbelievable. In Thailand it would have never happened. My opponent used punches and low kicks, I used real Muay thai weapons like kicks, teeps, knees and elbows, she even used a spinning back punch which is not allowed in professional Muay thai anymore. I am wondering what kind of scoring system the MPL is using. Also the referee was breaking up the clinch way too soon. And I am a clinch fighter!
He did the same in LA. I am wondering who that referee is.
I believe my fight was judged unfairly.
Also Jordan watson was given a standing count for a spinning back punch for no reason.
I was already standing and with my gloves up when the ref started to count me. Unbelievable."
Tainara Lisboa (BRA) def. Sandra Bastian (CAN) via Split Decision
147lb (66.6kg) – Welterweight
Saiyok Pumpanmuang (THA) def. Maurro Serra (ITA) via Unanimous Decision
Maurro SERRA: "It was a very very hard fight, certainly the hardest fight of my life !
The first round was the toughest, there was a crucial moment when Saiyok kneed me to the liver in the end of the first round! From the second round and for the rest of the fight I gritted my teeth and I gave everything I had. Because it was very important to me to show what I was able to do!"
Mohamed Khamal (MOR) def. Liam Harrison (UK) via Split Decision
Liam Harrison: "I scored with real muaythai weapons... kicks and knees and took Khamal down to the canvas many times. He only uesd punches and elbows and also the referee gave me an 8 count in round 1 for nothing."
160lb (72.5kg) – Middleweight
Vladimir Moravcik (SVK) and Rosario Presti (ITA) fight to a Draw
Rosario PRESTI: "I was able to do a tough fight. I was very concentrated, I saw everything. I always counter-attacked. I felt very good, I wanted to hurt him, I realy wanted to win. It was a very tough fight. Congratulations to Moravcik, a very tough opponent."
Ky Hollenbeck (USA) def. Jordan Watson (UK) via Unanimous Decision
182lb (82.5kg) - Light Heavyweight
Marc De Bonte (AUS) def. Jiri Zak (CZE) via Split Decision
Marc De Bonte: "It was a really hard fight. I was nervous to fight against a big name like Jiri but i really wanted to win and show everybody that I am able to fight at this level. Through the fight I felt that Jiri had more power but I was faster. In the last round Jiri came really hard. I trained very hard for this fight and am thankfull that the MPL had given me the chance to fight."
Kaoklai Kaennorsing (THA) def. Roberto Cocco (ITA) via Unanimous Decision
Roberto COCCO: "I honestly don't know how they can give him the victory. But if I had dared a bit more there would have been no doubt.
I deserved the victory because I always attacked and he just always tried to keep me away with front-kicks.
Kaoklai was as I expected even if I expected harder blows. It is the first time I don't go back home without limping after a fight !"
210lb (95kg) – Heavyweight
Ramazan Ramazanov (RUS) def. Chris Knowles (UK) via KO round 1
Kaoponglek (THA) def. Charles Francois (FRA) via TKO round 3
